Citizen Science has already been used successfully in many areas to research scientific problems and questions with the help of non-expert citizens. So far, however, little has been done with regard to IT security. Even though, it plays an increasingly important role in the success of Citizen Science projects in today’s digital world. Using a systematic literature review, this paper aims to investigate the current state of Citizen Science research in the area of IT security. For this purpose, 14 papers relevant to the topic are identified and analyzed. The various approaches from the literature and the different studies and experiments that are already being carried out with the help of Citizen Science are presented and explained in this work. The topics of the reviewed papers range from IT security in general, to cyber security to data security and blockchain technology. They also include the approach of Crowdsourcing Science as a related term to Citizen science. An overviewof the research is given and problems and gaps are revealed that still need to be addressed in IT security Citizen Science.
